New BMW 1800cc Touring Motorcycle Patent Leaked

– Leaked patent shows BMW’s new touring motorcycle

– Will be based on the new 1800cc platform

– The biggest engine developed by BMW to date

A new patent revealing BMW’s upcoming touring motorcycle has been leaked online. The images clearly reveal that it will be based on the brand’s new 1800cc platform which will also be used for the very famous R18 cruiser. After unveiling the R18 as a prototype in 2018, the company presented the second version of the concept at EICMA 2019.

Now we already know that this new platform from BMW will spawn several models which have been spied on several times so far. One of these bikes, which displays a typical tourer style, can be seen in the new set of patent images. It boasts of a long, low profile with touring-oriented elements such as a large front fairing with a high windshield, rear-pull handlebars, front footrests and roomy side panniers.

The patent images also show a large infotainment system flanked by speakers with analog dials on top. This configuration resembles that of the touring models of Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycle. In addition to this, BMW will most likely equip the motorcycle with a lot of electronic aids such as cruise control and traction control. In addition, the company could also introduce a handful of accessories for this motorcycle.

As for the heart of the matter, BMW officially revealed full details of the gigantic 1,800cc air / oil-cooled engine in November of last year. With a bore of 107 mm and a stroke of 100 mm, it produces 91 hp at 4,750 rpm and 158 Nm at 3,000 rpm. This engine is primarily focused on delivering punchy torque at low revs, between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm to be precise.

Details on the launch of the production model of these 1,800cc BMW motorcycles are scarce at this time. We expect BMW to have something of interest in store at this year’s EICMA show in Milan.
