MIC reports sales of off-road and bisport motorcycles soar by more than 50%
We didn’t really think we would see a benefit for the pandemic, but it looks like there has been at least a small ray of hope over the course of this year. With the world scrambling to find things to do, it looks like our favorite motorcycle sales are on the rise. People at Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) have calculated the numbers and have the good news for us.
IRVINE, California, Aug 11, 2020 – Sales of off-road motorcycles soared 50.3% in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year, while sales of dual-use motorcycles jumped 20.9% over the course of the year. of the same period, according to the Motorcycle Industry Council Retail Sales Reporting System.
âMountain biking and trail biking has always been one of the best ways to spend time with family and friends,â said Erik Pritchard, President and CEO of the Motorcycle Industry Council. âNow, with the pandemic, it’s amplified what’s good about going out on a motorcycle. You can get out of the house, have fun with your loved ones while maintaining social distancing. “
Off-road motorcycles include off-road motorcycles, track bikes, competition motorcycles, and other motorized two-wheelers that cannot be used on public roads. Dual-purpose motorcycles are street legal and are also designed for use on off-road trails.
On-road motorcycles saw sales drop 9.6 percent, while scooter sales rose 4 percent. Combined with the off-road and twin-cylinder, this puts total motorcycle sales in the first half of the year up 6.4% from 2019.
The MICROPHONE recently launched a Distancing commuters campaign to encourage people to consider motorized two and three wheelers as transportation alternatives.
âMotorcycles and scooters have many advantages,â said Pritchard. âNormally, studies have shown that they help reduce congestion. During this pandemic, being on a motorcycle means being able to avoid crowds and reducing the risk of spreading and collecting germs. And many riders say it adds fun to a normally mundane ride. Our Distancing commuters social media posts are a reminder of these benefits.
The Distancing commuters the posts direct people to FindYourRide.org, where they can quickly find information on how to get cycling training and where to find a bike.
âThis is just the first step, and there are many players in the powersports industry waiting to help future pilots explore their options,â said Pritchard. âThe sales for the first half of the year indicate a growing interest in powersports products and we are delighted to help them on their journey. “
