All-electric: Turn your BMW electric with an EV conversion kit

With iconic brands such as Harley-Davidson’s Livewire, Energica, Kawasaki, Royal Enfield and Triumph all aiming for an electric future (each with their own depiction of a bike to the ground), we’re seeing more zero emission variables on the road than ever.

We are also seeing some backsliding on the budgetary benefits of a zero emission scooter, especially the new feel of things like continuous transmission. You love your pretty shift parts – but What if you didn’t have to choose?

You heard right; a company called LM Creations just created an EV drivetrain that uses the existing gearbox of a gas bike.

She’s bolted to a BMW R80 donor bike, and rest assured – the torque is off the charts.

So how does this machine work?

According The packthe transmission somehow replaces the existing crankcase while retaining the gearbox (and motorcycle engine features).

Luc Muis, the mastermind behind this particular build, even tells us that there are several other engines suitable for this type of conversion; units like BMW, Moto Guzzi, vintage Triumph, Harley Davidson, URAL and “a bunch of English brands”.

“The experience of riding a custom or vintage motorcycle is more than half the fun, engine shaking, revving, accelerating and turning heads as you cruise around…so we wanted to maintain that excitement while riding a electric motorcycle: change gears, rev up, torque and definitely turn heads with an incredible noise!” enthused Muis.

“Imagine the whine of a supercharger combined with a JET turbine and incredible torque! »

And she is sure to be a couple; with the gears preserved, a rider with this EV conversion kit can take off in any gear, play with torque levels and enjoy the difference in handling with each gear.

Small thing, big jerk.

“We had never done power wheelies with a BMW R type before,” Muis adds.

“…well, now we’ve done it!”
