Make a connection
A great home-stay is finding the right people in the right places. Hosts and travelers can communicate with each other before their stay.
MotoStays are real people sharing their homes and inviting you temporarily into their world. Experience travel through the eyes of a local.
MotoStays.com was founded in 2014 by motorcycle travelers just like you!
Home-Stays or Shared Hospitality is an emerging idea proven by sites like Airbnb and CouchSurfing; A new approach to travel that leverages the sharing economy and mobile internet.
We think of hospitality as a framework in which we aim to be hospitable and sustainable on a personal level, on a group level (between hosts and guests) and on a network/social level. The MotoStays user-base is exclusively comprised of motorcyclists, just like you.
MotoStays was formed in 2014 by Gaila Gutierrez, Tad Haas and Elliot Haas. Passionate travelers and motorcyclists, they spent a year and a half living on motorcycles traveling all over North and Central America discovering the kindness of strangers.
Inspired by amazing people who offered a glimpse into their world and culture, home stays made the journey so much more interesting and special. MotoStays was launched with the vision of helping other traveling motorcyclists benefit by meeting new people, having cool experiences and extending the travel budget.
Whether traveling for a weekend, a vacation or an around the globe journey, MotoStays offers accommodation alternatives by connecting people to unique travel experiences. With our growing community, MotoStays is an easy way for people to share their extra space, connect with other riders and realize significant savings.
The MotoStays team
President & CEO
Riding motorcycles and working in the software business are two of my favorite things – starting at the age of 19 for the bikes and 1984 in the tech world. Stints with large corporations and start-ups alike have given me understanding and success in both. Business development/sales, marketing and leadership are key strengths. Product and partner management roles at Microsoft helped me gain a very global perspective and understanding of scale .I like to help others learn to ride/guide and do so through Puget Sound Safety Off-Road (PSSOR) when I’m not on my own adventures.
VP and Chief Community Manager
Hi. I’m Gaila, a life-long Seattleite with a big heart and loads of wanderlust! I ride a BMW F650GS (twin) and I’m passionate about people, riding and traveling. After spending the majority of my career in the corporate world, I quit my job in 2012 to travel on my motorcycle and nourish my soul. It was a life changing experience and one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I returned with a new outlook; material things are less important, experiences are priceless. Connecting with people, learning about different cultures and experiencing the beauty and diversity of the world is a warm soup for my soul. Put me on a moto, point me in a direction and I’m one happy girl.
Web Developer / CTO
I’m Elliot, the developer responsible for building the MotoStays websites/apps and accompanying technologies. I travel frequently and enjoy dirt biking, skiing, longboarding, mountain biking and live music. After growing up in Colorado I went on to play college baseball, and then to study graduate level economics. These days, I actively manage a number of web development projects/startups. I’m also very passionate about decentralized P2P networks, & ‘crypto-currencies’.
